Parent Meeting Recap

Grizzly Families –

Thank you to those that were able to attend our parent meeting. For those of you that missed it here is what we covered:

Coaches –

JV- Nancy Guzman and Camryn Guiao

Nancy played lacrosse at UC Santa Barbara and has been with the program for 5 years. Camryn is in her second season with MHHS and played at Cal State San Marcos.

Varsity - Taylor Cabrera and Audrey Stephens

Both Audrey and Taylor played together at MHHS. Taylor played NCAA DII at Fort Lewis College and has been coaching at MHHS for 5 years now. Audrey has been coaching with MHHS for several years at all levels.

EXPECTATIONS –

You can find our program expectations here. The players are aware of these expectations. Our biggest thing is communication!

Practices – M/W 3:45p-5:30P T/TH/F 5P-7P

This is what our practice schedule will look like throughout the season. Some weeks it may change. The coaches will communicate the schedule for the week through GroupMe to the players.

Away Games –

We will be taking busses to our away games. We ask that all players ride the bus back to Mission Hills. If for some reason your player will not be riding the bus back to the school, they need to communicate that with the coaches ahead of game day.

GBEF & Fundraising

The money from our fundraising efforts will go towards: Senior night, end of season banquet, program gear, equipment (goals, goggles, nets, balls, etc.), additional coaching stipends.

New Fundraiser - Grizzly Goal Club

Panda Express Dinner Night 3/16/23-Online

GotSneakers -Bring old sneakers to games/practices and we will send in to be recycled. We get money back for these recycling efforts. Perfect for spring cleaning!

Looking for parents to take on GBEF roles for next season. If you have any questions please let us know.

If you are interested in helping throughout the season please let us know!

Missed our Google Meet?

Here’s a brief overview of what was discussed in our Google Meet. If you have any questions about the info down bellow please don’t hesitate to send us an email. Coach Taylor will get back to you ASAP.

  • As of right now, our season is set to start on March 13th (the first day we're allowed to practice)

  • Girls Lacrosse is currently a Red Tier Sport meaning we can start non-contact practice/conditioning if our county is still in the purple tier and can transition into competition once in the red

  • Student athletes and coaches are only allowed to participate in one cohort/team

    • That means you can only participate in one Season 2 sports

      • UPDATE 2/10: CIF has changed the language on participating in multiple cohorts, while it is no longer a mandate, it is recommended that students participate in one.

    • If you're in field hockey or any other season 1 sport, don't worry about the one week overlap. We will make adjustments to tryouts this year so that you can participate in both

  • We're only looking to hold 2 teams this year instead of 3 due to the fact that scheduling games during this time is difficult and field space with multiple sports in one season will get tricky.

  • Clearance packets are due by March 4th, all info can be found on this link https://missionhillshigh.smusd.org/athletics/clearance

  • If you ordered spirit gear that you never picked up last year we still have it and can organize a time to get it to you or you can wait until season

  • We will send out more information regarding tryouts the closer we get to March 13th and once I have more clarification on what those will look like for this year

Athletic Clearance Packets

If you plan on playing any sport in the 2020-21 school year you must have an updated athletic clearance packet turned into the Athletic Trainer. Fall sports must turn in clearance packets before December 7th, 2020 and Spring sports must turn in clearance packets before March 8th, 2021. Get this done sooner rather than later. Once I have more information on when you can drop off your COMPLETED clearance packet I will let you know.

WeFund4U Fundraiser

Hello players and parents,

We will be launching our WeFund4u team fundraising effort on Thursday, March 5th at 5:00pm.

To prepare for this email donation fundraiser launch, Please load up 25-30+ emails of your family and friends who are willing to donate at least $20-$25 to our Lacrosse program. Please enter the emails in the “notes “section of your phone. This will enable you to cut and paste the emails into the platform and launch the donation request next Thursday at 5pm.

WeFund4u is a social donation campaign that has simplified the way teams and groups raise money. Fundraising is vital for the success of our program and we truly need to raise funds. No selling products or handling cash. WeFund4u has a streamlined process that allows the players and team to help raise money for a successful season. There have been thousands of groups who have had success utilizing this fundraiser. We need your cooperation for this to be successful.

It’s very simple, we are asking each parent/guardian help their student gather 20+ email addresses of their biggest supporters i.e. “Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, Family friends, etc.” Then, emails will be sent to these potential donors where they can view your student’s individual fundraiser page and decide if they want to donate. If not, they can easily delete the email. We are confident there are many people eager to support your player.  WeFund4u’s platform affords them the opportunity to help if they choose. This Fundraiser will be a success if you help develop a quality list. Emails are only used for fundraising and will never be sold, or redistributed.

* Your contacts are strictly PRIVATE, PROTECTED and will never be REDISTRIBUTED.

Overview and Explainer:

1. SAFE and PROTECTED-  WeFund4u is the safest online donation platform available. All information is private, 100% secure and will never be redistributed.

2. ONLINE PLATFORM- We will reach potential donors through email, text and all social media. Through these mediums, donors can visit the teams’ fundraiser page and choose to help support the cause with a donation.

3. DESIGN- WeFund4u is designed to exponentially increase the outreach of any fundraiser and help relieve the financial burden by accessing people who truly want to support the cause.

2/25 Parent Meeting Recap

We will briefly bullet point the topics that were covered at the meeting on 2/25. If you have any questions, as always, feel free to reach out to any of the coaches.

  • Website/Parent information: I try to keep this website as up to date as possible (specifically during lacrosse season). We are more active on the Instagram account (mhhsgirlslax) and try to update the Facebook page (Mission Hills High School Women’s Lacrosse) as often as possible.

  • Schedules: You can find each teams schedule under the “Schedule” page on this website. There’s also a link for a google calendar if you’d like to keep up to date with that electronically. There may be some schedule changes throughout the season and we will do our best to inform you as soon as there is a change.

  • Transportation: We will have busses for every away game. If your daughter takes the bus to the game she must come home on the bus. We will only make exceptions if you speak to us ahead of time, otherwise she is expected to be on the bus.

  • Player Expectations: We have PROGRAM WIDE expectations for our players, you can find those here. The coaches should have already gone over these with the players and if they haven’t they will. Having program wide expectations makes our program stronger, as the girls don’t have to adjust to different expectations at the different team levels.

  • Spirit Gear: Once we receive the spirit gear flyer from the company we are using, we will have a HARD deadline. If you and your family anticipate wanting to purchase any items please fill out your form, take it to the Cashiers window (AKA Jolene, next to the attendance window) to pay, once you’ve paid and received a receipt please bring both the receipt AND order form back to your coach. If you do not bring your order form to your coach your gear will not be ordered. After orders are placed it should take approximately three weeks to receive our items.

  • SDSU Games: There are two SDSU games that would be great for our program to go watch. One is on 3/8 at 1 p.m. and the other is on 3/28 at 1 p.m.. We can do a team vote or send out an email to see what works best for all. Entry is free and they are doing free t-shirts/rally towel handouts for both games. Just a great opportunity to watch lacrosse at a higher level in our own backyard!

  • Blast Fundraiser: This is our largest fundraiser. Last year it brought in around $5,000. It’s very simple, all you need to do is provide the contact information of any friends/family members that would be willing to donate to our program. Player participation is how we can make the most of this fundraiser, if you can have 10-15 contacts ready for your girls by 3/ 5, we will be filming our launch video that day and the girls need to input the contacts on the same day. If you have any questions please let us know!

  • If you would like to make a direct donation to our program, donations should be payable to: GBEF Girls Lacrosse (for your reference Tax ID# 46-3960523.

  • We use the money we fundraise for a multitude of things such as: 3 additional coaches, Hudl subscription, lacrosse banner, spirit apparel/stickers/lanyards, equipment, Senior Night flowers/gifts, end of season banquet dinner for all players- 3 teams, etc.

  • If you would like to help out or become a member of our GBEF board we anticipate having another meeting in March. We will share that information when we have a set date.

  • If you are looking for other ways to contribute to our program feel free to reach out via email or in person!

GO GRIZZLIES!

Beginners & Returners Skills Clinic

Beginners and returners skill clinic on Friday, January 3rd, 2-4 p.m. at Mission Hills High School on the turf. The beginners clinic will take place on one half of the field where we will be focusing on learning the basics of lacrosse, while the returners will be on the other side of the field working on advanced stick skills and offensive/defensive skills. All participants will need to bring proof of AAU Insurance (https://aausports.org/Join-AAU) or a US Lacrosse membership (https://www.uslacrosse.org/membership), these act as insurance in the event something were to happen during the clinic. The cost of the clinic is only $10 and we will provide a stick and goggles for players that don’t have their own, they must bring their own mouth guard. This is a great opportunity for beginners to learn the basics of lacrosse before tryouts in February!

We will be hosting an Alumni game at 4 p.m. for those that would like to stick around and watch former Grizzlies play with and against our current players!

ULAX High School Girls League

We will be hosting a team in the ULAX high school girls summer league. There will be no practice, just games! The tentative schedule is 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28. It will cost $105 per player which will include a ULAX jersey. If we have a lot of interest we can open up another team.
